Established in 1996, the Economic Division of Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India aims to promote bilateral economic and trade collaboration, as well as industrial cooperation and investment facilitation with India and South Asian nations. The division achieves this by actively engaging with government authorities and private sectors to facilitate partnerships in areas such as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), startups, and other economic and trade affairs.

The Economic Division works closely with authorities under the Ministry of Economic Affairs, including the International Trade Administration, Industrial Development Administration and the Department of Investment Promotion, together with Taiwan's foremost nonprofit trade promoting organization, Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) to promote trade and investment between Taiwan and India.
